How to divert missed calls on a UK mobile

The codes that send unanswered calls to another number, how to switch them off, and what to check with your network.

The one code most people need

To divert every call you don't answer, type this into your phone's dial pad and press call, replacing the number with the one you want calls sent to:

**004*07700900123#

This covers three situations at once: you don't pick up, you're already on a call, or your phone is off or has no signal. Your phone still rings first, so you can answer as normal.

Switching it off

Dial ##004# and press call. Your phone goes back to how it was, including your normal voicemail.

Diverting only in some situations

  • **61*number# when you don't answer
  • **67*number# when you're on another call
  • **62*number# when your phone is off or out of signal

Each has a matching code to cancel it: ##61#, ##67# and ##62#.

Choosing how long it rings first

You can set how many seconds your phone rings before an unanswered call is diverted, from 5 to 30 in steps of 5. For 15 seconds:

**61*07700900123**15#

A shorter time means fewer callers give up; a longer time gives you more chance to answer yourself.

Checking it worked

Dial *#61# to see whether divert on no answer is active and where calls are going. Then ring your mobile from another phone and let it ring out.

Things to check with your network

  • Cost. Diverted calls may come out of your minutes or be charged, depending on your tariff.
  • Support. These are standard codes and work on most UK networks and contracts, but some pay-as-you-go plans limit divert.
  • Landlines and internet phones. These use different settings. Look for call forwarding in your provider's account or handset menu.
